6 All Natural Moisturizers To Use in Your Nightly Routine

Posted by Cindy Cunningham on

Feel Free to skip all of the skincare isles stocked with moisturizers that promise you the world and yet deliver nothing. Natural moisturizers are cheaper and have way more skin benefits without all of the toxins.

Here is a tip for newbies: Everyone has different skin needs. You may need to try several different oils before you settle on the one that is the most effective and absorbs the best for you. For acne prone skin I would recommend Shea butter as it rates a 0 on the comedogenic scale. If you have dry or aging skin reach for Coconut oil or Cocoa Butter. If you have normal or combination skin try Almond oil or Olive Oil. Again, everyones skin reacts differently so try these out for yourself.

  • First on our list is Shea Butter. Shea butter is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and bioactive ingredients. In fact Shea butter has the highest content of healing fractions of any oil/butter made. It treats a host of skincare issues, it won't clog your pores, it absorbs quickly and it is the perfect base for DIY recipes.
  • Next is Avocado oil. This oil is extracted from the avocado which we all know makes a perfect skin mask. This oil is particular good for oily skin because it absorbs completely within a few minutes. It will not sit on top of the skin and cause breakouts like some heavier oils.
  • Third is the ever popular coconut oil. This oil is high on the comedogenic scale which means people with acne prone skin should avoid this oil like the plague. However if you suffer from dry skin or you have maturing skin go ahead and slather it on. It takes a while to absorb but it is good for oil cleansing, moisturizing and controlling frizzy hair. As a bonus it smells good as well.
  • Moving on our trusty Olive Oil. This is a time honored skincare remedy used in the Mediterranean areas for thousands of years. Alas, it is also higher on the comedogenic scale so if you have oily skin it is not for you. If you have dry or maturing skin then go ahead and indulge. It is perfect for softening skin so rub it on your face, hands, feet, elbows, knees or any where that needs a little extra attention.
  • Our next moisturizer is honey. Honey is delicious and skin beneficial. It is antibacterial and a natural moisturizer. Use it as a face and hair mask and you will immediately feel the difference. It would be best to look for raw honey and shop local so you know that you are getting a quality product.
  • Last but not because it is any less wonderful is cocoa butter. Cocoa butter has a fairly decent shelf life, it is packed with fats that moisturize the skin and it smells like chocolate. What is there not to love?
